In this guide, I’ll share my favorite methods for boiling eggs. I’ll cover three types: how to cook soft boiled eggs, how to cook hard boiled eggs, and the technique for achieving a perfectly runny yolk. Here are some important tips to keep in mind:

  • This recipe is tailored for medium-sized eggs, weighing approximately 60-65g. If using larger eggs, adjust the boiling time accordingly by adding additional minute to cooking time.
  • Always wash the eggs before cooking.
  • Use cold water to prevent the eggs from cracking.
  • You can substitute salt with vinegar if desired.
  • Remove the pot from the heat after the first big bubbles show up.

You will need:

  • Cold water
  • 1 tsp of salt
  • Eggs (washed)

Hard boiled eggs – firm whites, fully cooked yolks:

  • Fill a pot with cold water and add 1 tsp of salt.
  • Gently place the eggs into the pot and bring the water to a boil.
  • Once water starts boiling, remove the pot from the heat and let the eggs sit in the hot water for 6 minutes.
  • Transfer the eggs to a bowl of cold water and let them sit for an additional 5 minutes.

Soft boiled eggs – soft set whites, jammy yolks:

  • Follow the same steps as for hard boiled eggs, but let the eggs sit in the hot water for 4-5 minutes.
  • Transfer the eggs to cold water and let them sit for 5 minutes.

Runny yolk – barely set whites, runny yolk:

  • Repeat the initial steps, but this time let the eggs sit in the hot water for 3-3.5 minutes.
  • Move the eggs into cold water and allow them to rest for 5 minutes.

In conclusion, by learning the various techniques in this guide on ‘how to boil eggs,’ you can confidently prepare your favorite egg dishes with ease, ensuring delicious results every time.
